oh justin

hello.
hi there.
yes, please.

mother mother

my mother just asked if Metric's "Gimme Sympathy" was a Taylor Swift song.

how are those two artists in any way similar?!

and then she started dancing like Molly Ringwald in The Breakfast Club to Beck's "E-Pro".
she's now downstairs, watching Coronation Street and Jepoardy!

oh, mom...

parental privacy rant

whyyyyyyyy must my father say something like "hi lukas - i've seen pictures of you" when he meets a classmate of mine?

while shaking his hand?

ugh ugh ugh embarrassing!

this is just one of many problems with having your computer in the middle of the house:
your parents see pictures of you, your friends, your friends' friends, your peers, etc. when you're on facebook:
mom: "oooh who was that? he was cute! go back! do you know him? is he in your grade?"
dad: "what's up with that girl's hair? and those sunglasses! haw haw haw"

and i can't watch shows on the internet in peace. either mom is listening to Neil Young (ugggggggh) or dad is vacuuming, or they make me turn it down because they're tired. i wanna watch Skins without my mother going "oh my GOD! what is this!? i don't think you should watch this!"

all i wanna do is watch the too-sexy-to-watch-while-other-people-are-in-the-room video for "Love Sex Magic" by Ciara and Justin Timberlake. but NO.

whyyyy can't our computer be somewhere less public?
better yet, whyyyy can't i have my own laptop?

fireworks and jesus bread

drama trip '09, ladies.
i love you so much.

"
'You laugh,' he said, 'You think you're immune,
Go look at your eyes, they're full of moon
You like roses and kisses and pretty men to tell you
all those pretty lies, pretty lies
When you gonna realize they're only pretty lies
only pretty lies, just pretty lies.'

do re mi fa so la ti do

  • i bought shoes for grad today. they're black peep toed pumps from Le Chateau. i'm currently wearing them around the house because 1) i need to practice for grad, and 2) wearing heels makes me feel like a sexy badass.
  • i have this weird soft spot for Demi Lovato. i have both "Get Back" and "Don't Forget" on my iPod and she's so... i dunno, cute. she plays guitar in the "Don't Forget" video. there's just something about her that i really like.
  • i got the newest issue of Nylon and i have come to the conclusion that i really really do not like Kristen Stewart AT ALL. she comes across as bored and ungrateful and bitchy. and she looks so mean/bitchy/bored in all the pictures. when Dan Levy called her a bitch on The After Show, i cheered. out loud. and nodded like a bobble head. yet another reason for me to love that man =)
  • zac efron did a photoshoot for Interview magazine and OH MY GOD I AM DYING. he is just TOO HAWT. i turn into a slobbering zombie whenever i lay eyes on that man-boy. it is because of him that i will rush out to see 17 Again, a movie i would otherwise avoid. one problem though: i don't think that Zac Efron will look like Mathew Perry when he's 37. at least, i hope not.
  • OOOH. here's another movie to add to Emma's Must-See List: 500 Days Of Summer. it has joseph gordon-levitt (SIIIIIGH) and zooey deschanel (eeeee!) in it, and they fall in love. regina spektor's "Us" is used in the preview. it looks unbelievably cute. will it come to Vernon? oh, probably not. www.apple.com/trailers

teeter-totter

you just can't call me "Emma Doll" and hold hands with me and call me attractive, beautiful, gorgeous, etc.

without me becoming absolutely, utterly, COMPLETELY charmed.
that's just how i roll.

my name is Emma, and i am easily charmed.

british invasion

i've come to the conclusion that i, perhaps, was supposed to be British.
i just love everything that comes out of that country!
a large portion of the music i listen to comes from the UK:

Adele, Alphabeat, Amy Winehouse, Arctic Monkeys, The Beatles, Bloc Party, Calvin Harris, The Clash, Coldplay, Corinne Bailey Rae, The Cranberries, David Bowie, Duffy, Estelle, Franz Ferdinand, The Fratellis, Friendly Fires, Goldfrapp, Imogen Heap, Kate Nash, Klaxons, The Kooks, Lily Allen, M.I.A., The Pipettes, Queen, Sam Sparro, The Ting Tings, U2...

that's a lot!
also, has anyone noticed that Paris Hilton seems 10 times smarter on the British version of her find-a-"friend" show? she never puts on that weird baby voice, she formulates sentences that actually make me nod in agreement, and she comes across as... HUMAN! she's actually - dare i say it? - likable. and the contestants aren't weird. you know? i actually desperately want Samuel, the only boy, to ditch Paris and be MY British Best Friend. the American contestants were these weird characters that made me wanna turn off my t.v. forever. "Back home, everyone calls me Bikini Corrie because I earned it! *SOB*"

my third reason for believeing I should've been British:
Skins.
Skins is a British teen drama, the UK's answer to The OC or Gossip Girl. but it has something more. it's fucking hilarious, for one. i die from laughter at least once per episode. it follows a group of British teens living their lives, each with their own interesting storyline. hey, did you know that on British tv, teen dramas have swearing and nudity? i'm not talking about "damn" or "hell", nor "nudity" meaning a quick shot of some random's bum. on Skins, Tony's dad utters the sentence "SODDING MOTHERFUCKER WANK TITS!" at his own children, and you see full-frontal nudity from the hilariously naive psychology teacher, Angie, among others. this show happens to star a young Dev Patel (my lover) as Anwar, a horny Muslim boy. just yet another reason to watch. Alex and I are hooked on this show, you should be too:

Passenger Seat - Death Cab For Cutie

i roll the window down
and then begin to breathe in
the darkest country road
and the strong scent of evergreen
from the passenger seat
as you are driving me home
then looking upwards
i strain my eyes and try
to tell the difference between
shooting stars and satellites
from the passenger seat
as you are driving me home
"do they collide?" i ask
and you smile
with my feet on the dash
the world doesn't matter
when you feel embarrassed
then i'll be your pride
when you need directions
then i'll be the guide
for all time
for all time

"That hat looks like a boob!"

"I've had some... homo experiences."

swagga like us

i am currently typing on my dad's laptop, sitting ever-so-comfortably on my bed. i feel very much like Carrie Bradshaw right now. i'm ignoring the fact that i'm in American Eagle and Apparel sweats instead of Marc Jacobs and BCBG...

speaking of BCBG, I HAVE MY GRAD DRESS!
that's just one of the many tasks ahead of me crossed off of my list. there's still SO MUCH to do!
actually purchasing a dress has made everything so much more real. i'm GRADUATING.
ooh yeah, i've finally got off my skinny ass and applied to some post-secondary institutions, Okanagan College and UBC-O.
i've decided to grace Vernon with my presence for one more year. as much as i'd like to be ready to get out of here, i have come to the realisation that i am simply not ready for university yet. i'm just gonna take some classes and work a part-time job. chill. hopefully i won't be bored to tears... or lonely to tears...

friday night was a success, if i do say so myself. i met up with Allie and we headed on over to Casey's for his 18th. we're all just getting so OLD.
i had lots of fun. witnessing drunken fence hopping, ducking from the police in Quinton's car, watching hilarious dance moves, listening to a very short but "VERY IMPORTANT" birthday song, helping people get the right shoes on the right feet...
staying relatively sober at a high school party is actually so entertaining.
